Client Update 6/2/10

Client was looking for new challenges either with a company as an employee or as a consultant.  Harvey Nash Consulting contacted him for a position with Qwest as a Consultant working on a project with their system.  The project will be a 2-3 year assignment.  Morgan is always looking for new challenges and the ability to improve and/or build new systems.   With a background as a Systems Architect client will take his expertise as a consultant with Harvey Nash and expects to be the Principal Architect before the assignment ends.

Financial compensation just shy of $200k annually is a 15% increase over his last position.

Client update 5/28/10

Client had a great position with DirecTV Home Services; however, the travel was excessive for raising a family.  She needed to find a position where all of her skills could be used to develop and align organizational objectives for both the business and HR.  Client has managed acquisitions and divestitures throughout her career and has designed and developed both strategic and tactical plans by aligning the HR philosophy with the organization’s business plans.  Client will be responsible for managing the HR staff in Miami, FL and Field Management.  She was invited to attend the Leadership Meeting in Austin, TX prior to starting in June.  As VP of Human Resources at Mastec she achieved a 10% raise from her last position.

The link that I have provided above details current events related to the South American economy; specifically, that of Brazil.  As a world traveler who recently returned from a trip to South America the content of this article is of special interest to me.

In my travels through Brazil I saw firsthand how the economic uptick that has accompanied the preparation for the summer Olympics of 2012 is juxtaposed by the overwhelming poverty throughout most of the country.  As demonstrated by the level of diversity in the Brazilian economy (strong agricultural, mining, manufacturing and service sectors) Brazil has found itself in a leadership position for the South American region.

Recent examples of this regional clout were on display as Brazilian diplomats, along with domestic leaders, played an integral role in dealing with the political coup that the government of Honduras faced in late 2009.  Brazil stands poised to play an increasingly important

This recent client is an entrepreneur who owned Fox Hollow Coffee and Austin Chase Coffee for 9 years and was a Trainer/Presenter/Curriculum Writer prior to that time.  He has experience in consulting and training including Leadership Development and Customer Service.  He has written several books and is writing another.    He is a perfect fit for this small consulting firm and will be providing training on soft skills to the sales and customer service managers of Microsoft.  He is very excited about his new position.  The interviewing process included all day interviewing with each employee from the receptionist to the CEO.  It was most important he match the culture and philosophy of the company.    They loved the fact he had worked with corporate clients, had two successful start ups, and was a great writer.  They are very impressed with the fact he has written a book and that is currently writing his third book.

Client used his vast network and consulting opportunities to brand and position his skills, knowledge and experience to land the position with  Geospatial Corporation.  He is responsible for the start-up of the Denver operations, staffing, RFPs, sales, marketing, compensation, performance metrics, safety, policies and procedures, budgeting, cost control, contract negotiations and M&As.  His development of an operational model to open up new markets and grow the company helped him secure the position.  Annual base salary exceeds $200k with over 500,000 shares of company stock to be provided over a 3 year period.

Client Success Story

Rick needed to find a position ASAP.  He decided to use his network in Florida.  As a Sr. Systems Analyst he will be upgrading and supporting Taleo and Image Now with a new ERP system conversion coming in the near future.  He will be supporting HR in a functional / technical role along with working with project management.  They want standardization across 25 facilities, as well as the workflow and methodologies.  He will be responsible for the transfer of control from HR to IT.  Also, he has been told that within 6-18 months, he will have the opportunity to take on the Director position.

    The American economy faces a pivotal year in 2010 as economists look to several sectors for signs of growth and recovery.  As stated on Bloomberg.com industries such as utilities grew in the first month of the year while other areas that may address consumer confidence more accurately (entertainment, retail) shrank.

    While economists are not seeing numbers in certain sectors that would definitely mark signs of a long term recovery the reports from the employment sector must be regarded favorably.  A drop in planned firings in January 2010 compared to a year earlier indicates that businesses and employers maintain an optimistic view of the direction in which the economy heading.  This is complimented by the Labor Department reporting 15,000 more jobs in the first month of 2010 compared to the end of 2009′s fourth quarter.  Obviously these numbers need to be tempered against the hiring of temporary workers by the federal government.

    Factors such as temporary hires and how they offset unemployment numbers are often viewed with a wary eye, but there is a silver lining regardless of interpretation.  By demonstrating a steady approach to battling unemployment the Federal government is helping to maintain the confidence that the American public has in these first stages of the end of the recession.  Businesses are following suit by minimizing layoffs and planning new hires.  Now more than ever is the time to position yourself for employment opportunities in 2010.
